2008 Introduction to Style
I feel before I can really start writing about fashion I should express how I feel about it. It's purely simple. At the age of 5 I wanted to be a designer. My mother was and is an incredible seamstress/designer and so it seemed only right I would follow her talent. This ultimately, without proper guidance, was a mishap for me. I very much have a passon for fashion. I don't care about trends or what the cool new retro style is, but I do care about details. It's all art to me. I pay attention to things like trims, color schemes, shapes, etc. These are the things I love about fashion. The way a garment moves, the way it can reflect or project, and the way it feels, this to me, is fashion.
In 8th grade World History class, we were to write a paper on an icon, a simple biography on someone American and influencial. I wrote my paper on Calvin Klein. In high school it was Marc Jacobs while he worked for Perry Ellis. I was obsessed with fashion shows and favored the real bravado ones which not only showcased the clothes but what the clothes represented. I admire those designers who push and prod at the industry....John Galiano, Jean Paul Gautier, Leger, McQueen, Lagerfeld....these are true artists.
A La Mode will be the place where these types of artists reside. It will include not only fashion but home decor, accessories, and all things related to style. You don't have to be a fashionista to enjoy fashion nor do you have to be a celebrity to be a designer.
